Linguistic Competence


Linguistic Competence
Lexical Competence , has a very basic range of simple expressions about personal details and needs of a concurred tape. Knowledge of and ability to use the vocabulary of a language consist of lexical elements and grammatical elements.
Grammatical competence, may be defined as a knowledge of and ability to use the grammatical resources of a language. Students can control a narrow repertoire dealing with concrete everyday need.
Semantic competence, deals with the learners awareness and control of the organization of meaning.
Phonological competence, involves a knowledge of and skill in the perception and production of ( phonemes, allophones, sentence phonetics, the phonetic composition of words, intonation, stress, word tones, vowels reduction, assimilation)
Orthographic competence, involves a knowledge of and skill in the perception and production of the symbols of which written texts are composed.
Orthoepic competence,  need to able to produce correct pronunciation from the written form, knowledge of spelling conventions, ability to consult to dictionary, knowledge of implications of written forms particularly punctuations marks for phrasing  and intonation, ability to resolve ambiguity.
Sociolinguistic Competence is concerned with the knowledge and skills required to deal with the social dimension of language use.
Pragmatic Competence are concerned with the user/learner’s knowledge of the principles according to which messages are a) organized, structured and arranged(Discourse competence) use to perform communicative functions (functional competence) c) sequenced according to interactional and transactional schemata( design competence)
